WEBSITE & WEBHOSTING BASICS

Answering the simple questions.

If you are new to web hosting and website management it can all seem a little daunting. so it's our aim to make everything as simple as possible. Below is a number of common questions answered, and how we can make it easy for you.

  1. Why do I need Web Hosting ?
To make your website available to the world it must reside on a computer permanently connected to the internet and able to "serve"(give) the requested pages to each and every internet user who wants to view them.

  2. I don't have a website yet.
Before you even consider Web Hosting you will need to build an actual website. You can do this yourself or have a web designer do it for you. We can recommend windswell here in the Bay of Islands.

  3. What's a Domain name, and how do I get one ?
A domain name is like a postal address that's easy to remember. When someone types in www.yourdomain.co.nz into their web browser, they are directed to your site. Without a domain name, you don't exist on the web. We recommend you use FREEPARKING who can register New Zealand and international domain names. Click here to see if the domain you want is available.

  4. What is DNS and "Name Servers" mean
Your domain name is your address and so your DNS/name server information could be seen as the Post Office. When someone wants to view your site they need to be pointed to the correct place and for this to happen you must have registered your server location. This is usually done via the registrar you registered your domain name with. Our name servers are ns1.latitude35.net, ns2.latitude35.net

  5. Can I have an email address with my new site ?
Yes, you can set these up (and much more) yourself using the free control panel that comes with every hosting plan. To see what this looks like you can view our demo Cpanel by logging in as username: demo, password:demo

  6. How do I move my NEW website onto my WEBFISH hosting account?
If you have a new site it needs to be "uploaded". This can probably be done by whoever built it for you. If this is proving to be a problem we can do it for you for a one-off fee. Please contact us for more information.

  7. How do I move my EXISTING website onto my WEBFISH hosting account?
If you have a site already on the web you will need to transfer it to your new account - your web designer or administrator should be able to help. If this is proving to be a problem we can do it for you for a one-off fee. Please contact us for more information.

We have tried to cover the basics here but you may have further questions. Please view our FAQ page or feel free to contact us at any time if you would like any issues clarified.
